University of Cape Town (UCT) Online Application for 2018 is now open for Undergraduate and Postgraduate – UCT invites prospective students to apply for 2017 academic year.

The 2018 admission cycle is currently open and will close on 30 September 2017. We do not consider late applications.

If you normally reside in, or have completed schooling in South Africa, or are applying for admission to a programme in the Faculty of Health Sciences, you must write the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs). You must register for the NBTs before you apply online. NBT results obtained in 2014, 2015 or 2016, are valid for 2017 admission. For admission to UCT, you must write the NBTs in English and you must have written the NBTs by 15 October 2017.

The last date for undergraduate programme changes is 31 October 2017. These requests must be submitted to


Postgraduate programmes containing coursework mostly close on 31 October, with the exception of a few programmes. Please refer to the 2017 Directions for Postgraduates for the relevant closing dates.

The following dates apply to undergraduate admission for 2018.

31 August
  • Preferred date for submission of Bachelor of Fine Art (BA(FA)) portfolio, for early consideration.
29 September
  • Final date for BAS and BA (FA) portfolio submissions.
  • Final date to submit the Personal Report and CV for MBChB applicants.
30 September
  • All undergraduate applications close. We do not accept late applications.
  • Applications for student accommodation close.
  • Final date to request permission to write the NBTs after 14 October.
14 October
  • Last opportunity to write the NBTs.
31 October
  • Final date to request a programme change. Programme changes must be submitted in writing to with the subject line “Change to Programme Choices”.
  • Due date for all interim grade 12 NSC results and predicted non-NSC scores for those currently completing their secondary schooling.
  • Due date for current (interim) and previous years’ (final) transcripts.
  • Due date for all past final secondary school results from May 2017 and earlier.
31 December
  • Final transcripts are due for students registered for tertiary studies in 2017.


15 January
  • Final CIE results from the November 2017 session are due.
19 February
  • Start of teaching Semester 1.

Applications for research-only postgraduate programmes do not close. Please select the year in which you wish to start your programme when applying. Please submit your application as soon as possible after starting the online application.
