Italian Government (MAECI) Scholarships 2025/2026 for Foreign Students – Study in Italy

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) invites foreign citizens and Italian citizens residing abroad (IRE) to apply for the Italian Government Scholarships 2025/2026 academic year.

Scholarship Location: Italy
The MAECI Scholarship Programme aims to promote international cooperation in cultural, scientific, and technological fields, support Italy’s global economic and cultural presence, and encourage the dissemination of the Italian language and culture. Scholarships are exclusively for on-site study at Italian institutions.
Selected grantees from Africa may also participate in the WikiAfrica Higher Education Initiative, developed by the Moleskine Foundation in partnership with the Wikimedia Foundation and Aurora Foundation.

- Research Projects under Academic Supervision
Non-Degree Programmes:
- Higher Education in Fine Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM)
- Advanced Italian Language and Culture Courses

Who Can Apply?
- Foreign citizens and Italian citizens residing abroad (IRE).
- Applicants must hold the academic qualifications required for their chosen programme.
Age Requirements (by 16 May 2025):
- Bachelor’s / Single Cycle Degree: max 23 years (born after 16 May 2002)
- Master’s / AFAM / Italian Language Courses: max 28 years (born after 16 May 1996)
- PhD Programmes: max 30 years (born after 16 May 1994)
- Research under Academic Supervision: max 40 years (born after 16 May 1984)
Language Requirements:
- Programmes taught in Italian: Italian B2 (CEFR)
- Programmes taught in English: English B2 (CEFR)
- Italian Language & Culture Courses: Italian A2 (CEFR)
- No language certificate required for PhD & Research Programmes
Scholarship Benefits
- Duration: 9 months (3 months for language and culture courses)
- Tuition Fees: Possible exemption from enrollment and tuition fees (regional fees are still payable).
- Health Insurance: Covered during the grant period (excluding pre-existing conditions and dental care).
- Financial Support: Total grant amount of €9,000.
