About the Apprenticeship Programme
John Thompson is one of South Africa’s leading manufacturers of industrial and utility boilers. The company is offering:
- Programme: Apprenticeships (Boilermaking & Welding)
- Number of Positions: Maximum 20
- Location: Bellville Office (Western Cape only)
Successful candidates will receive structured training and workplace exposure to become skilled artisans.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have one of the following:
- Grade 12 Technical with:
- Metal Work
- Welder’s Theory
- Technical Mathematics (No Maths Literacy)
- Technical Science
OR
- Grade 12 Academic with:
- Mathematics (No Maths Literacy)
- Physical Science
OR
- N2 Trade Theory Subjects such as:
- Platers Theory / Welder’s Theory
- Engineering Science
- Platers Drawing
OR
- NCV Level 4 Fabrication (No Maths Literacy)
Additional Requirements
- Must be medically fit for relevant trades
- Must have an interest in engineering
- Must be between 18 and 35 years old
- Must reside in the Western Cape
Experience
- No experience required
- Full training will be provided to successful candidates
Important Information
- Candidates will undergo:
- Psychometric testing
- 3-month evaluation period as unskilled workers
- Only candidates who pass the evaluation may be selected for apprenticeship
- Interviews will take place at the Bellville Office

- Qualified artisans or candidates with Electrical/Diesel/Fitting & Turning qualifications will not be considered
