Kouga Local Municipality is inviting suitably qualified applicants to apply for internship opportunities in the Finance Department and Electro-Mechanical Department.
Preference will be given to applicants who permanently reside within the Kouga Local Municipality area of jurisdiction.
1. Finance Internship Programme 2026

Programme: Finance Internship Programme
Duration: 3 years
Salary: R120 000 per annum

Requirements
Applicants must have a relevant NQF Level 6 or NQF Level 7 qualification in a finance-related field.
Relevant fields include:
Accounting, Financial Management, Public Finance, Economics, Risk Management and Auditing.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Applicants must be able to work effectively under pressure and apply good time management skills.
Candidates must have good communication skills, computer skills, especially Excel and other programmes, and strong attention to detail.
Applicants must be able to speak, read and write in at least two of the official languages used in Kouga Municipality, which are Afrikaans, English and Xhosa.
Areas of Training and Exposure
Finance interns will be trained and exposed to the following areas:
Public sector procurement, Municipal Finance Management Act, MFMA 56 of 2003, and relevant legislation.
Best practice and Treasury Regulations.
Negotiation, planning and organising skills.
Performance monitoring.
Advanced report writing and analytical skills.
Municipal Finance Management Programme, also known as MFMP.
2. Electro-Mechanical Department Internship 2026

Requirements
Applicants must be computer literate.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
Candidates must have good communication skills.
Applicants must be able to speak, read and write in at least two of the official languages in Kouga Municipality, which are Afrikaans, English and Xhosa.

Internship Agreement
Successful interns will sign an internship agreement in addition to an employment contract.
The agreement is meant to ensure commitment to the programme, including full participation in education and workplace assignments, as well as compliance with municipal policies and procedures.
