KZN Amafa and Research Institute: Cadets Learnerships 2023

KZN Amafa and Research Institute is extending an invitation to unemployed youth to submit their applications for the 2023 / 2024 Learnership Programme.

The KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute is offering an exciting opportunity for young individuals interested in heritage and research. They are inviting applications for their Cadet program, which includes 29 available positions.

About KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute: Amafa serves as the provincial heritage resources authority (PHRA) for KwaZulu-Natal. With offices in Pietermaritzburg (Head Office) and Ulundi, the institute manages various significant heritage projects, including the Isandlwana & Rorke’s Drift Battlefields, Border Cave archaeological site, and the KwaZulu Cultural Museum. They are responsible for overseeing compliance processes related to development, structural changes to protected buildings, and archaeological and battlefield sites in KwaZulu-Natal, all administered from the Pietermaritzburg office.

Available Cadet Vacancies and Requirements:

x5 HERITAGE ADMINISTRATION

  1. Head of Administration and Secretariat Office
  2. Registry Office
  3. Supply Chain Management
  4. Umuzi Bush Camp
  5. Corporate Service

Requirements:

  • A 3-year Degree/Diploma in Financial Management, Auditing, Accounting, Office Management, Human Resources, or Administration.

Purpose: To provide administrative support in key areas within the Head Office.

x2 HERITAGE PRACTITIONER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Requirements:

  • A 3-year degree/diploma in heritage, history, archaeology, geology, architecture, anthropology, political science, sociology, or related fields.

Purpose: Provision of heritage services to the organization.

x6 HERITAGE TOURISM IN THE FOLLOWING HERITAGE SITES

  • King Shaka Interpretive Centre – KwaDukuza
  • Isandlwana Interpretive Centre
  • Spioenkop Battlefield in Ladysmith
  • Shiyane Interpretive Centre
  • Rorke’s Drift
  • KwaZulu Cultural Museum at Ulundi
  • Umgungundlovu Multi-Media Centre

Requirements:

  • Diploma in tourism, hospitality management, nature conservation; or Matric with history and tourism as passed subjects.

Purpose: To provide tour guiding and other tourism-related functions at the heritage sites.

x14 HERITAGE MAINTENANCE CADETS

  • Various heritage sites, including King Shaka Interpretive Centre, Isandlwana Interpretive Centre, Spioenkop Interpretive Centre, Rorke’s Drift Interpretive Centre, KwaZulu Cultural Museum, and Umgungundlovu Multi-Media Centre.

Requirements:

  • Matric

Purpose: To provide various maintenance services at heritage sites.

x2 HERITAGE RESEARCH

Requirements:

  • 3-year degree in humanities, such as sociology, political science, history, African languages, or anthropology.

Purpose: To provide applied and scientific research related to the core functions of Amafa.

Please note: These positions are stationed at various heritage sites and interpretive centers, and applicants must reside within the vicinity of the sites.
