About the Lancet Internship Programme

Lancet Laboratories is offering a Pre-Analytical Internship opportunity for individuals interested in gaining experience within the pathology and healthcare environment.

The internship focuses on supporting laboratory operations through sample sorting, registration, distribution, and tracking while ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

This programme provides practical exposure to laboratory support services and healthcare administration processes.


Internship Overview

Interns will assist the Pre-Analytical team with:

  • Sorting and distributing pathology samples
  • Registering and tracking specimens
  • Supporting laboratory administration
  • Maintaining workplace cleanliness and organisation
  • Assisting with courier and specimen dispatch processes

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification

Advantageous:

  • BSc Degree

Experience Required

  • 0–1 year relevant working experience

Key Responsibilities

Sample Reception and Laboratory Support

  • Sort and distribute pathology samples according to SOPs
  • Assist with sample registration and logging
  • Verify sample information on the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Scan patient forms onto the Occulus laboratory scanning system
  • Assist with specimen dispatch and monitor courier progress

Customer Service

  • Interact professionally with medical staff and stakeholders
  • Maintain ethical and professional customer care standards

Workplace Standards

  • Perform housekeeping and cleaning duties
  • Prepare and maintain IT equipment according to SOPs
