Department of Land Reform and Rural Development invites South African unemployed youth to apply for the National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) Trainee Programme 2026.

About the NARYSEC Programme

The National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) Programme was established to empower young people in rural areas by providing skills development, training, and community service opportunities.

The programme is aligned with the National Development Plan (Vision 2030) and focuses on:

  • Developing skilled rural youth
  • Promoting economic participation
  • Supporting youth-led development initiatives

Successful candidates will attend a 9-week induction and Youth Leadership Development Programme, followed by practical training and community service.


Available Training Opportunities

Applicants can apply for training in the following fields:

  • Firefighter Trainee
  • Traffic Officer Trainee

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Have a Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4
  • Reside within Johannes Phumani Phungula Local Municipality (all wards)
  • Be unemployed and not studying
  • Have no criminal record
  • Be medically fit (physical assessment required)
  • Have a valid driver’s licence (Code B for Traffic Officer)
  • Have a pass in English (40%)
  • Have a pass in Mathematics Literacy (40%)
  • Be willing to undergo training away from home

Note: Post-matric qualifications may apply, but preference will be given to applicants whose highest qualification is Grade 12.

  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Proof of residence (from Traditional Council or Municipal Councillor)
  • Grade 12 certificate or statement of results
  • Updated CV with at least 2 contactable references
  • Completed and signed application form
