Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the Aspirant Prosecutor Training Programme, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Qualification: Applicants must have completed an LLB degree or hold an equivalent foreign qualification, with proof of accreditation from SAQA. Final-year LLB students may also apply, provided they complete their degree before the programme’s start date.
- Employment Status: Applicants must be currently unemployed and have no prior legal experience. They should not have participated in any Practical Vocational Training for legal practitioners.
- Nationality: Applicants must be South African citizens.
- Professional Conduct: Candidates must demonstrate competency in acting independently, professionally, accountably, and with credibility.
Duties and Responsibilities
Once selected, successful candidates will undergo a rigorous 12-month training programme. The training will involve practical experience and assessments to determine the candidates’ competency for appointment as prosecutors.
Throughout the programme, candidates are required to adhere to the NPA’s Code of Conduct and observe Policy Directives issued by the National Director of Public Prosecutions. On completing the training, aspirant prosecutors may be placed in various NPA offices across the country, based on the organization’s discretion. It is essential to note that declining a permanent placement offer may result in the termination of the contract.
