About the Pharmacist Assistant Learnership

Netcare is offering a Basic Pharmacist Assistant Learnership designed to provide students with hands-on pharmacy experience in a hospital environment.

Learners will work alongside qualified pharmacists and gain practical skills in medication dispensing, stock control, and pharmaceutical support services. Upon successful completion, learners can register with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

The Pharmacist Assistant Learner will assist in the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and healthcare teams under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist, ensuring services are delivered responsibly and cost-effectively.

Key Work Outputs and Responsibilities

Stock Control

Participate in cyclical and full stock-take processes
Assist with procurement and ethical stock control
Process stock for internal departments and inter-clinic sales
Manage stock according to Netcare Stock Management Policy
Monitor designated stock areas

General Duties

Ensure compliance with SA Pharmacy Council regulations
Follow up on outstanding medication for patients
Perform administrative and housekeeping duties
Carry out tasks assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacist

Medication Dispensing

Assist pharmacists with all aspects of dispensing
Pick and package medicine under supervision
Capture dispensed items on patient accounts according to medical aid TTO rules
Capture patient profiles and prescriptions on the Unisolve system
Assist with monthly chronic medicine recalls

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
Core Mathematics
Physical Science
Life Science
Must be under 35 years of age
Must be unemployed
