Purpose

The purpose of this 12 months graduate programme is to provide support to the Real Estate and Logistical Services department and to assist the employer to keep the workplace safe and free from hazards to the health and safety of the employees by implementing OHS standards, fire Safety Standards, procedures and directives. This is an exciting opportunity for those who have completed their National Diploma: Safety Management and looking to enhance their skills and experience in the work environment.

About the Team

The Occupational Health and Safety team is responsible for assisting the employer to keep the workplace safe and free from hazards to the health and safety of the employees by implementing OHS standards, fire Safety Standards, procedures and directives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities:

Gather IOD statistical information for analysis

โ€ขParticipate in hazard identification and risk assessment processes

โ€ขParticipate in Fire Risk Assessments

โ€ขParticipate in incident investigations

โ€ขConduct weekly workplace inspections and issue reports

โ€ขParticipate and provide assistance with the formation and functioning of the Safety Committees

โ€ขCarryout tasks as per the fire prevention program

โ€ขInspection of firefighting equipment

โ€ขIdentify the need for firefighting equipment

โ€ขPresent health and safety induction

โ€ขDistribute fire safety awareness items

โ€ขImplement Safety Plans

โ€ขImplement the emergency procedures and plans

Execute Planned Task Observations and gather critical tasks information for analysis

โ€ขProvide support on issues relating to OHS Act the OHS Program

โ€ขMonitor OHS compliance on projects

โ€ขImplement emergency plans and procedures

โ€ขConduct Safety Walkabouts with a view to pinpoint non-compliances

โ€ขMonitor Safety Representatives, fire Marshals and first aiders inspections

โ€ขPresent Safety Induction

โ€ขAttend departmental Health and Safety Committee meetings

โ€ขConduct Departmental Document verification  

INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • National Diploma: Safety Management (Three Year NQF 6) or relevant discipline)
