SASSA August 2026 Payment Dates Confirmed: Some Beneficiaries Will Be Paid on a Fourth Day

SASSA beneficiaries are being urged to check their messages carefully after the agency confirmed that some social grant recipients will receive their August 2026 payments on a newly introduced fourth payment day.

The additional payment date applies specifically to beneficiaries who have been identified for a social grant review or eLife Certification. These beneficiaries will be paid on Friday, 7 August 2026, instead of during the normal three-day payment cycle.

SASSA payment dates for August 2026

The confirmed SASSA social grant payment schedule for August 2026 is:

Grant categoryPayment date
Older Persons GrantsTuesday, 4 August 2026
Disability GrantsWednesday, 5 August 2026
Childrenโ€™s GrantsThursday, 6 August 2026
Beneficiaries selected for reviews or eLife CertificationFriday, 7 August 2026

The staggered payment system is designed to reduce congestion at payment points, retailers and ATMs while making it easier for beneficiaries to access their money. (EWN)

Who will be paid on the fourth payment day?

The fourth payment day is not an additional general payment date for every beneficiary.

Friday, 7 August 2026, has been reserved for social grant recipients who have been flagged by SASSA for one of the following processes:

  • A social grant review
  • eLife Certification
  • Verification of continued eligibility
  • Confirmation or updating of personal information

SASSA normally sends an SMS notification to beneficiaries who have been selected for a review. Their payment is then moved from the normal three-day cycle to the fourth payment day.

Beneficiaries should therefore not panic if their money does not reflect on the usual payment date, especially when they have already received a review notification from SASSA.

What beneficiaries paid on 7 August must do

Beneficiaries who receive their grants on Friday, 7 August 2026, may be required to visit their nearest SASSA office to complete the review or eLife Certification process.

It is important to respond as soon as possible when SASSA sends a notification. Failing to complete the required process could result in the grant being suspended during a future payment cycle.

Beneficiaries visiting a SASSA office should take their South African identity document and any additional documents requested in the official notification.

They should not send identity documents, banking details, PINs or other personal information to unknown individuals claiming to represent SASSA.

Why does SASSA conduct social grant reviews?

Social grant reviews are conducted to confirm that beneficiaries continue to meet the qualifying requirements for their grants.

The process helps SASSA to:

  • Confirm that beneficiaries remain eligible
  • Identify outdated or incorrect personal information
  • Prevent payments to deceased or ineligible individuals
  • Detect possible fraud
  • Protect public funds
  • Keep beneficiary records accurate

The introduction of a fourth payment day allows SASSA to separate beneficiaries undergoing reviews from those receiving grants through the normal payment schedule.

Beneficiaries must update their contact details

SASSA has appealed to beneficiaries to report any changes to their cellphone numbers, contact details or residential addresses.

The agency uses the information captured when a beneficiary originally applied for a grant to send important notifications. Outdated information may result in a person missing an SMS about a review, certification process or payment arrangement.

Beneficiaries who have changed their contact details should visit a SASSA office and request assistance with updating their records.

What happened during the July payment cycle?

During July 2026, the normal grants were paid over three working days:

  • Older Persons Grants were paid on 2 July
  • Disability Grants were paid on 3 July
  • Childrenโ€™s Grants were paid on 6 July
  • Beneficiaries requiring reviews or eLife Certification were paid on 7 July

SASSA said some recipients paid on the fourth day did not understand why their payments had been moved. The agency has therefore reminded affected beneficiaries to check their notifications and complete the required review process.

Does everyone need to collect their grant immediately?

Beneficiaries do not have to withdraw all their money on the exact payment date.

Once the grant has been deposited into a beneficiaryโ€™s bank or grant account, the money remains available until it is needed. Beneficiaries can avoid long queues by accessing their funds later when payment points are less crowded.

Be careful of fake SASSA messages

Beneficiaries should be cautious of criminals who may use the grant-review process to request personal or banking information.

SASSA will not ask beneficiaries to disclose their bank card PIN or hand over money to complete a grant review. Anyone who receives a suspicious message should confirm it directly with SASSA before responding.

The official SASSA toll-free contact number is 0800 60 10 11.

Important reminder for August 2026

Most beneficiaries will receive their August grants between Tuesday, 4 August and Thursday, 6 August 2026.

Only beneficiaries selected for grant reviews, eLife Certification or related verification processes are expected to be paid on the fourth payment day, Friday, 7 August 2026.

Affected beneficiaries should read their SASSA SMS notifications carefully and visit their nearest SASSA office when instructed. Acting promptly can help prevent delays or the possible suspension of future grant payments.
