The Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) invites South African unemployed graduates to apply for Internship Opportunities 2026.

Duration: 24 Months
Stipend: R11 175.00 per month

This 24-month internship programme is aimed at young graduates below the age of 35 and offers structured workplace experience within the social housing sector across South Africa.


About the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA)

The Social Housing Regulatory Authority is a public entity responsible for regulating and promoting the social housing sector in South Africa. SHRA ensures that affordable, well-managed rental housing is developed and sustained for low- to middle-income households, particularly in urban areas. The Authority also oversees compliance, provides funding support, and strengthens the capacity of social housing institutions to support sustainable human settlements.


About the SHRA Internship Programme

The SHRA Internship Programme is designed to:

  • Provide unemployed graduates with practical workplace experience
  • Develop skills relevant to the housing and built environment sectors
  • Expose interns to public-sector governance, administration, and community development
  • Support youth employment and skills development

Collections Administrator Intern

Location: Durban
Department: Rentals

Duties:
Administration, debtors control, letting administration, legal administration, rent billing and collection, rent deposit administration, credit control, bookkeeping, rent roll reporting, opening and closing rental accounts.

Requirements:
National Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Economics, or Financial Management

Skills:
Rental management, bookkeeping, credit control, computer literacy


Leasing Administrator Intern

Location: Durban
Department: First Metro Housing Co

Duties:
Leasing process administration, rental collections, tenant management, reporting, and general administrative support.

Requirements:
Grade 12 (Matric) and a Bachelor’s Degree


Company Secretary Intern

Location: Johannesburg
Department: Office of the CEO

Duties:
Statutory record keeping, compliance support, board meeting coordination, travel and accommodation arrangements for Council members, governance research, policy register updates, and general office administration.

Requirements:
Diploma in Administration


Project Management Quantity Surveyor Intern

Location: Hospital Street Social Housing – Newcastle
Department: Buhlebezwe Property NPC

Duties:
Site inspections, measurement verification, contractor payment verification, cost monitoring, variation tracking, site reporting, and liaison with contractors and consultants.

Requirements:
Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction


Social Work / Community Development Intern

Location: Imizi Housing Head Office – Port Elizabeth
Department: Community Development

Duties:
Resident assessments, case management, community engagement, crisis intervention, stakeholder collaboration, community events facilitation, and advocacy support.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Social Sciences (Community Development)


Tenant Liaison Officer Intern

Location: East London
Department: SOHCO

Duties:
Tenant communication, lease administration, complaints management, unit allocation, waiting list management, tenant exit processes, and tenant empowerment initiatives.

Requirements:
Degree in Social Sciences with leasing, tenant, or property management focus


Project Administrator Intern

Location: FMHC Head Office – Durban
Department: Project Development

Duties:
Project reporting, tenanting list verification, unit completion tracking, quarterly evidence verification, filing, and trend analysis.

Requirements:
Degree in the Built Environment (Quantity Surveying, Civil, Electrical, Construction Management) or Project Management
