About the Client Coverage Internship Programme

The Client Coverage Internship Programme forms part of Standard Chartered’s Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) function. Interns work with Client Coverage teams that manage and grow relationships with corporate clients and financial institutions, delivering solutions across:

  • Working capital and financing
  • Trade and cash management
  • Financial markets
  • Risk management
  • Capital markets and advisory services

This internship is designed as a pipeline into the Graduate Programme, with many interns returning to the bank as full-time graduates.


Internship Programme Structure

The programme offers a comprehensive learning experience, including:

  • 10-week summer internship
  • Structured induction and orientation
  • Classroom-based learning on banking products and platforms
  • On-the-job training and technical seminars
  • Support from managers, mentors and buddies
  • Networking opportunities with senior leaders
  • Participation in community initiatives

Teams You May Join

Interns will be placed in one of the following teams:

Corporate Coverage

Working with multinational, local and middle-market corporate clients to deliver tailored banking solutions, including lending, trade finance, cash management and advisory services.

Financial Institutions Coverage

Partnering with banks, insurers, asset managers, public sector entities and private equity firms to deliver financing, risk, cash, securities and investment solutions.


Available Internship Roles

Assistant Relationship Manager

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Senior Relationship Managers
  • Assisting with deal execution and account planning
  • Coordinating between clients and product partners
  • Identifying new business opportunities

Credit Analyst

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting credit and risk assessments
  • Structuring deals and monitoring existing clients
  • Conducting financial, credit and industry risk analysis
  • Learning about environmental, sustainability and reputational risk

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a penultimate-year student
  • Available to intern in June 2026
  • Available to start full-time employment in July 2027
  • Have strong academic performance and extracurricular involvement
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Be able to work effectively in a team
  • Have strong communication and project management skills
  • Have the legal right to work in South Africa
