Valterra Platinum is inviting students to apply for its Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.

The bursary is aimed at students who are pursuing studies in key mining-related fields and who are interested in building careers within the platinum mining sector.

What the Bursary Covers

The Valterra Platinum bursary will cover tuition fees for the full duration of studies, up to Honours level.

The bursary may also cover accommodation in university residence and meals, where applicable.

Eligibility Requirements for Geotechnical Rock Engineering Bursary

Applicants must be studying full-time towards a mining or geology qualification.

Applicants must be final-year undergraduate students in 2026.

Applicants must be prospective Honours students in 2027.

Applicants must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in their most recent results.

Applicants must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa.

Applicants must be keen to pursue a career in Geotechnical Rock Engineering.

Applicants must be willing to join the Valterra Platinum Graduate Programme after graduation and rotate across Valterra Platinum mines, including Amandelbult, Mogalakwena and Mototolo.

Eligibility Requirements for Geomatics Mine Surveying Bursary

Applicants must be currently in Matric in 2026 and must be entering their first year of undergraduate studies in 2027 towards one of the following qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Surveying.

Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mine Surveying.

Applicants may also apply if they are final-year undergraduate students in 2026 studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Surveying, or Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mine Surveying, and will be prospective Honours students in 2027.

Applicants must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in their most recent results.

Applicants must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa.

Applicants must be willing to join the Valterra Platinum Graduate Programme after graduation and rotate across Valterra Platinum mines.

Eligibility Requirements for Mining Engineering Bursary

Applicants must be studying full-time towards a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mining Engineering.

Applicants must be final-year undergraduate students in 2026.

Applicants must be prospective Honours students in 2027.

Applicants must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in their most recent results.

Applicants must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa.

Applicants must be willing to join the Valterra Platinum Graduate Programme after graduation and rotate across Valterra Platinum mines.

Preference

Preference will be given to learners from communities in and around Valterra Platinum operations.

This is in line with Valterra Platinumโ€™s commitment to local socio-economic development.

Processing operations are located in Rustenburg in the North West Province and Polokwane in Limpopo.

Mining operations are located in Thabazimbi, Burgersfort and Mokopane in Limpopo.
