SANBI: Internships Programme 2017 in KZN

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is offering a 12-month internship position to support a project on the Flora of KwaZulu-Natal. The successful intern will provide technical support to coordinators of the project. The project will provide opportunities to get to know the plants of KwaZulu-Natal, for interactions with plant taxonomists and some field work. The duration of the internship is November 2016 – October 2017, with a possibility of an extension for another year.

Requirements

Enthusiastic students with at least an Honours Degree in Life Sciences, preferably in systematics, are urged to apply. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of herbarium processes, have good written and spoken English and advanced organisational skills. The internship will suit a self-driven individual who is keen to be part of a collaborative team. A valid driver’s licence is required.

The monthly stipend offered is fixed at:

  • R7 150 for an Honours internship
  • R8 250 for a Masters internship
  • R9 300 for a PhD internship
