About the Learnership

The Food and Beverage Services industry plays an important role in restaurants, hotels, catering companies and hospitality establishments.

Course Content

Learners will be trained in different areas of the Food and Beverage Services industry.

The course will include learning how to describe the layout, services and facilities of an organisation.

The programme will cover maintaining health, hygiene and a professional appearance, communicating verbally and maintaining effective working relationships with staff members.

Food and Beverage Service Training

The programme also includes maintaining table service, cleaning and restocking drinks machines and equipment, cleaning and storing glassware, and handling and disposing of waste.

Learners will also learn how to handle and store cleaning equipment and materials.

Hospitality and Customer Service Training

Learners will be trained to provide carvery and buffet service.

They will also learn how to prepare, service and clear function rooms.

The programme includes monitoring customer satisfaction and serving bottled wine.

Learners may also be trained to prepare and serve spirits and liqueurs, recommend and present wines, and supervise the running of a function.

Workplace Safety and Development

The learnership will also cover maintaining a safe and secure working environment.

Learners will learn to monitor health, safety and security and provide first aid.

The programme also includes on-the-job coaching, self-development, introducing new staff to the workplace, and planning staff training and development in an area of responsibility.

Operations and Administration Training

Learners will be exposed to short-term supply needs, preventative maintenance programmes and cleaning programmes.

They will also learn how to maintain the receipt, storage and issuing of goods.

The programme includes operating a payment point, processing payments, handling refunds and processing incoming and outgoing telephone calls.

Learners will also learn how to plan, organise and monitor work in their area of responsibility, identify work opportunities and apply for jobs or work experience placements.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a certified Matric certificate.

Applicants must be able to read and write for the purpose of submitting a Portfolio of Evidence.

Applicants must be able to commit to a 12-month learnership.
