The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) will also release individual results at the relevant examination centres where candidates wrote their exams.
How to Apply to Rewrite Matric
If you did not get the results you wanted, you can apply for another rewrite. Here’s how:
You’ll need:
- A copy of your ID
- Your Matric certificate or statement of results

- Visit your local district office in person.
- Or apply online via the Department of Basic Education’s website.
Collecting Your May/June 2025 Matric Results
Learners can collect their results at the school or examination centre where they wrote their exams.
You will be notified via SMS when your results are available for collection.
Understanding the Different Matric Pass Levels
Bachelor’s Pass
- Requirements: At least 50% in 5 designated subjects (including Life Orientation) and at least 30% in 2 other subjects.
- You can fail only 1 subject.
- Opportunities: Study at universities, TVET colleges, or other higher education institutions in fields such as medicine, law, and psychology.
Diploma Pass
- Requirements: At least 40% in 5 designated subjects (including Life Orientation) and at least 30% in 2 other subjects.
- You can fail only 1 subject.
- Opportunities: Enrol in certain universities of technology, technical colleges, and diploma programmes (e.g., engineering, nursing).
Higher Certificate Pass
- Requirements: At least 40% in your Home Language, 40% in 2 other subjects, and 30% in 3 other subjects.
- You can fail only 1 subject.
- Opportunities: Study at TVET colleges or private colleges (subject to their admission requirements).
Fail
- Criteria: Failing 2 subjects (scoring 0–29%) means you do not pass.
- Next steps: You can still rewrite your failed subjects or repeat the full year.
