Sassa Disability Grant Online Applications Now Open: How to Apply and Who Qualifies

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is making it easier than ever for people living with disabilities to access much-needed financial support. The agency is now encouraging the public to apply for the Disability Grant online, offering convenience and saving applicants both time and transport costs.

This initiative is part of Sassa’s ongoing commitment to improve access to social services and streamline the application process for vulnerable individuals.

Apply for the Sassa Disability Grant Online

The online platform allows applicants to book their medical assessments and complete most of the application process from home. This is especially useful for individuals who face mobility challenges or live far from Sassa offices.

To apply, visit the official Sassa website and follow the step-by-step process. Make sure to upload certified documents that are no older than six months. These include your medical assessment report and valid identification.

Applicants who don’t have internet access can still visit Sassa offices to make an in-person booking or receive assistance with the application.

“This programme is not meant to prevent applicants from going to Sassa offices,” the agency explained. “It simply offers an additional option for those who prefer or need to apply online.”

What You Need to Qualify for the Sassa Disability Grant

To be eligible for the Disability Grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or recognised refugee living in South Africa
  • Be between 18 and 59 years old
  • Undergo a medical assessment confirming a permanent or temporary disability
  • Provide a referral form from a registered healthcare facility
  • Pass a means test, which also includes spousal income if married
  • Not be receiving another social grant for themselves
  • Not be receiving care in a state institution
  • Provide a 13-digit barcoded ID for both the applicant and their spouse (if applicable). If an ID is not available, Sassa-approved alternatives may be accepted

Protecting Your Personal Information

Sassa warns applicants not to share personal details with strangers or unofficial sources. Fraud is a growing concern, and beneficiaries should only use official Sassa platforms or visit a local office for help.
