SANParks Hiring Field Ranger, Field Guide & Interpretive Officer

South African National Parks (SANParks) invites suitable candidates to apply for exciting job opportunities at various national parks across the country. Vacancies are available for a Field Ranger Sergeant, Field Guide, and Interpretive Officer, offering passionate individuals a chance to contribute to the conservation, education, and tourism efforts of SANParks.

1. Field Ranger Sergeant – Addo Elephant National Park

Closing Date: 23 June 2025
Location: Zuurberg Section, Addo Elephant National Park
Salary: R242,641.86 – R373,882.72 per annum (Paterson Grade C1)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • National Diploma or NQF Level 6 in Conservation or related field
  • 2–5 years’ supervisory experience in dangerous game areas
  • EMI Grade 5 & Field Ranger Basic Training
  • SAPS firearm competency certificate
  • Code 8 driver’s licence and computer literacy

Duties Include:

  • Law enforcement and biodiversity protection
  • Planning and implementing patrols and deployments
  • Supervision and training of rangers
  • Stakeholder engagement and community relations

2. Field Guide – Olifants Rest Camp, Kruger National Park

Closing Date: 24 June 2025
Location: Olifants Rest Camp, Kruger National Park
Salary: Paterson Grade B3

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • THETA Nature Site Guide Certificate (including Dangerous Game unit standards)
  • Valid First Aid, DEAT registration, Code 10 (C1) driver’s licence & PDP
  • SAPS firearm competency certificate
  • 1 year relevant experience

Duties Include:

  • Conduct guided activities and interpretive tours
  • Marketing and administration of guided experiences
  • Promote environmental awareness

3. Interpretive Officer – West Coast National Park

Location: West Coast National Park
Salary: R154,678.93 – R217,305.38 per annum (Paterson Grade B4)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma in Nature Conservation, Social Science, Education or equivalent
  • 2 years’ experience in environmental education
  • Cultural heritage management knowledge
  • Fluent in Afrikaans
  • Code 10 driver’s licence (PDP advantageous)

Duties Include:

  • Develop and present environmental education programmes
  • Maintain relationships with local communities
  • Conduct exhibitions, outreach, and guided park activities
  • Administrative and promotional tasks
