About the Metacom Foundation Bursary
The Metacom Foundation Bursary is aimed at empowering previously disadvantaged female students of colour residing in the Western Cape. The bursary supports young women pursuing studies in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and related fields.
The programme offers not only financial support but also mentorship and personal development initiatives to ensure students succeed academically and personally.
What the Bursary Covers
The bursary provides full support for the duration of studies, including:
- Full tuition fees.
- Accommodation, transport, and essential daily needs.
- Guidance and mentorship through the “Big Sister” initiative with industry professionals and past recipients.
- Access to personal guidance, health, and wellness sessions.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Reside within the Western Cape (due to in-office internships, workshops, and life-coaching sessions).
- Be a female of colour.
- Be aged 18 to 27 years old.
- Be currently in Matric (2025) or have completed Matric.
- Be studying or intend on studying full-time towards a Bachelor’s Degree in ICT or a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering).
- Be enrolled or intend to enrol at one of these universities:
- University of Cape Town (UCT)
- University of the Western Cape (UWC)
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
- Stellenbosch University
- Have a strong academic record.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Show ambition and potential.
Required Documents
When applying, applicants must upload clear, certified copies of the following:
- Completed bursary application form.
- ID document.
- Matric final results.
- Most recent university transcript (if applicable).
- Parents/guardians proof of household income (payslips, affidavit, pension, or SASSA proof).
- Reference letter (optional).
