Assmang Manganese Division – Black Rock Mine Operations (BRMO) – is offering full bursary opportunities for hardworking, motivated South African students who wish to pursue studies in key engineering and mining-related fields during the 2026 academic year. The bursary is open to new applicants, including current Matric learners and existing university students.
Black Rock Mine Operations, located in the Northern Cape, is part of the Manganese Division of Assmang (Pty) Ltd – a joint venture between African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) and Assore Limited. BRMO is known for its operational excellence, advanced technology, and commitment to safety, skills development and transformation within the mining sector.
Fields Covered by the Assmang Bursary Programme 2026
Bursaries will be awarded in the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) – BTech / Advanced Diploma / BSc Engineering (1 bursary)
- Industrial Engineering – BTech / Advanced Diploma / BSc Engineering (1 bursary)
- Information Technology – BTech / Advanced Diploma / BSc IT (1 bursary)
- Geology – BTech / Advanced Diploma (1 bursary)
- Mechanical Engineering – BTech / Advanced Diploma / BSc Engineering (1 bursary)
- Metallurgical Engineering – BSc or BTech Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering (2 bursaries)
- Mine Survey – Bachelor of Mine Surveying / Advanced Diploma (2 bursaries)
- Mining Engineering – BTech / Advanced Diploma / BSc Mining Engineering (2 bursaries)
- Occupational Hygiene – BTech / Advanced Diploma / Degree in Environmental Health Science (2 bursaries)
Expenses Covered by the Assmang Bursary
The bursary provides comprehensive funding, including:
- Full tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Prescribed books
- Laptop
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for:
- Interviews
- Psychometric assessments
- Verification/authentication of CV information
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be 18–35 years old
- Be currently in Matric (2025) or have completed Matric with a Bachelor pass
- Be studying or planning to study full-time in 2026 in one of the approved fields
- Have achieved a minimum B-average in all subjects
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a South African university or university of technology
- Not be receiving other bursary or financial aid funding
- Provide all required supporting documents
- Preference will be given to:
- Students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Students living with disabilities
- Students from the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality
- Applicants with confirmed university acceptance for 2026
