The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is offering a 12-month Pharmacist Internship opportunity for suitably qualified graduates registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). This internship provides comprehensive workplace exposure in pharmaceutical care, medicine supply management, public health promotion, and adherence to regulatory standards.

This placement is ideal for passionate, detail-oriented graduates eager to strengthen their practical experience under the supervision of experienced pharmacists in a high-performance healthcare environment.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A basic qualification accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) permitting registration as a Pharmacist Intern
  • Registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist Intern (or proof of application & payment if pending)
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy legislation & National/Provincial Health Policies
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of professionalism and ethical conduct

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, interns will:

  • Provide Pharmaceutical Care, including prescription evaluation, dispensing medication, and patient counselling
  • Ensure effective medicine supply management: procurement, storage, distribution, and quality control
  • Maintain adherence to Pharmacy policies, procedures, and expenditure control
  • Assist in training and education of pharmacy personnel and other healthcare workers
  • Support public health promotion initiatives
  • Demonstrate commitment to Quality Management, including compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice, OH&S standards, and Regulated Norms and Standards
  • Display leadership by taking initiative and assisting in solving operational challenges
