About the Capitec Bank External Bursary Programme 2027

Capitec Bank has opened applications for its External Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.

The bursary is aimed at high-performing South African students who are studying full-time in fields that support innovation, technology, business, data and the future of banking.

Successful applicants may receive financial support for study-related costs, as well as workplace readiness training and personal development opportunities.

What the Capitec Bank Bursary Covers

The bursary may cover the following study-related costs:

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be studying full-time during the 2027 academic year
  • Must be registered at a DHET or CHE registered tertiary institution
  • Must be studying towards an NQF Level 7 Bachelorโ€™s Degree or Honours qualification
  • Must have a minimum academic average of 65%
  • Must meet all application requirements

The bursary is open to:

  • Current Grade 12 learners in 2026
  • Students taking a gap year after completing Matric in 2025
  • First-year undergraduate students
  • Second-year undergraduate students
  • Final-year undergraduate students

Who Does Not Qualify?

The bursary does not accept applications from:

  • TVET College students
  • Community College students
  • Distance learning students, including UNISA
  • Graduate School students
  • Business School students
  • Higher Certificate students
  • Diploma students
  • Advanced Diploma students
  • Masterโ€™s students
  • Doctoral students
  • N4, N5 or N6 students

Applicants must be studying full-time.

Academic Requirements

Grade 12 Learners

Grade 12 applicants must have:

  • Bachelorโ€™s Pass
  • Minimum average of 65%

Current University Students

Current university students must have:

  • Minimum average of 65%
  • Strong academic results for the latest completed academic years

Capitec may give preference to students who are progressing within the minimum completion period.

Important Bursary Conditions

Annual Renewal

The bursary is renewable each year, but renewal depends on:

  • Academic performance
  • Student engagement
  • Available sponsor funding

Receiving funding for one year does not guarantee funding for the full qualification.

Work-Back Obligation

Bursary recipients may be required to work for Capitec after completing their studies.

The work-back period usually matches the number of years funded. Failure to honour the obligation may require repayment of the bursary value, including applicable interest.

Full-Time Study Requirement

Students must remain registered as full-time students.

False information or undisclosed employment may result in cancellation of the bursary and repayment of all funding received.

Applicants must prepare certified documents before applying.

Documents Required for All Applicants

  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Certified parent or guardian ID, or death certificate
  • Proof of household income
  • NSFAS funding confirmation or affidavit
  • Other bursary funding confirmation or affidavit

Certified documents must be less than three months old.

  • Certified Grade 11 final report
  • Certified Grade 12 Term 2 report
  • Certified Matric certificate, if already available
