About the Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi South32 Bursary
The Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi South32 Bursary Scheme provides funding opportunities to qualifying students from the King Cetshwayo District in KwaZulu-Natal who are pursuing or planning to pursue full-time tertiary studies in 2027.
Bursaries are awarded for one academic year at a time and may be renewed based on the student’s academic performance and conduct.
Selection will consider academic excellence as well as other applicable selection criteria.
Fields of Study
Bursaries are available for Degree or Diploma studies in fields including:
- Engineering, Built Environment and Architecture: All disciplines.
- Commerce, Law and Management: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Science, Law and related disciplines.
- Health Sciences: Medicine, Nursing and related fields.
- Humanities: Arts, Social Science, Education and related disciplines.
- Science: Mathematical Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, Actuarial Science and Biological Science.
- Computer Science and Information Technology.
Consideration may also be given to students pursuing other disciplines.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Reside within the King Cetshwayo District in KwaZulu-Natal.
- Be under 21 years old.
- Be currently in Matric or have already completed Matric.
- Be studying or intending to study full-time towards a Degree or Diploma in 2027.
- Be studying or planning to study at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
- Have a strong academic record.
Preference will be given to students from designated groups.
Documents Required
Applicants must submit copies of the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of South African ID.
- Latest Matric results, if currently in Matric.
- Final Matric results once received, for current Grade 12 learners.
- Matric certificate, if Matric has already been completed.
- Full academic record on the institution’s letterhead, if currently studying.
- Proof of residence, such as a municipal water and lights account or a letter from a Council member or Chief.
Applicants should ensure all required documents are submitted, as missing documentation may result in the application being disqualified.
Selection Process
Applicants will be considered based on factors including their academic performance and the bursary’s selection criteria.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to participate in an interview and assessment.
Applicants who have not received feedback by 30 November 2026 should consider their applications unsuccessful.
Bursary funding is awarded for one academic year and may be renewed subject to satisfactory academic performance and conduct.
