Anglo American Platinum invites South African students to apply for Bursary Programme 2023 academic year.
Bursary Application Closing Date: 31 July 2022
Bursaries will be awarded for studies within these fields:
- Geology
- Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Electromechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Mine Survey
- Rock Engineering
- Trainee Surface (Chemical Engineering, Extraction Metallurgy or Metallurgical Engineering)
- Ventilation Trainee (Mining Engineering)
Students who are not studying yet (have completed Matric or are currently in Matric), will have the opportunity to work alongside Anglo America’s professional practitioners for a year before commencing tertiary studies. This will allow recipients to ensure they are studying on the correct path.
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, textbook allowance, laptop allowance, personal allowance, allowance for private accommodation or university residence accommodation and meals, as well as cover for medical expenses on the company medical aid scheme.
Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Geology:
- You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying towards a Geology qualification
- You must be studying or provisionally accepted to study at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- 1st year students: you must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics, Science and English
- 2nd year students: you must have passed all modules you have registered for
- 3rd year students: you must be completing Job Subject to Referral Bonus and pass all modules you have registered for
- Preference will be given to applicants from host communities, in line with the companies Social and Labour Plan commitments (however, students from other areas may also apply)
Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Electromechanical Engineering:
- You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying towards a Mechanical or Electrical (Heavy Current) Engineering Diploma or Degree qualification
- You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics, Science and English in Grade 11 (if currently in Matric)
- You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics, Science and English in Matric (if completed Matric)
- Preference will be given to applicants from host communities, in line with the companies Social and Labour Plan commitments (however, students from other areas may also apply)
Mining Engineering:
- You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying towards a Mining Engineering (4-year degree – BSc, BEng, BET) NQF8 level qualification
- You must be studying or provisionally accepted to study at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- 1st year students: you must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics, Science and English
- 2nd year students: you must have passed all modules you have registered for
- 3rd year students: you must have passed all subjects you are currently registered for
- 4th year students: you must have passed all subjects you are currently registered for
Mine Survey:
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying towards a Mine Survey qualification
- You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- 3rd year students: you must have passed all subjects you are currently registered for
- 4th year students: you must have passed all subjects you are currently registered for
- Preference will be given to applicants from host communities, in line with the companies Social and Labour Plan commitments (however, students from other areas may also apply)
Rock Engineering:
- You must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying towards a Mining and Geology Engineering or Geology qualification (BET, BENG, BSc)
- You must be studying or provisionally accepted to study at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- 1st year students: you must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics, Science and English
- 2nd year students: you must have passed all modules you have registered for
- 3rd year students: you must have passed all subjects you are currently registered for
Trainee Surface:
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying towards a Chemical Engineering, Extraction Metallurgy or Metallurgical Engineering qualification
- You must be in your third year of study
- You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- Preference will be given to applicants from host communities, in line with the companies Social and Labour Plan commitments (however, students from other areas may also apply)
Ventilation Trainee:
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying towards a Mining Engineering (4 year Degree – BSc, BEng, BET) NQF level 8
- You must be in your third year of study
- You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
- Preference will be given to applicants from host communities, in line with the companies Social and Labour Plan commitments (however, students from other areas may also apply)
