Dept of Basic Education: Registration for Second Chance Matric Programme 2024

The Department of Basic Education is accepting applications for the “Second Chance Matric Programme,” aimed at individuals looking to improve their Senior Certificates, Matric, or Grade 12.

Programme Overview: The Second Chance Matric Programme aims to support learners who haven’t met the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC). By doing so, it contributes to achieving the goals of the National Development Plan (NDP) and the education sector, ultimately increasing learner retention.

Candidates to be Supported:

  • Senior Certificate Examination Candidates.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must meet specific criteria, including being a resident in one of the SADC countries, studying a botanically related science qualification, and having a minimum overall average of 70%. Various scenarios for different candidate types are outlined, such as adult learners, MSc students, and out-of-school youth.

Targeted Subjects: Subjects covered include Accounting, Agricultural Science, Business Studies, Economics, English FAL, Geography, History, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences.

How to Apply:

  • Registration for the 2024 Senior Certificate examination is open from 01 October 2023 to 09 February 2024.
  • Candidates can register at provincial education offices or online at www.eservices.gov.za.
  • Ensure all required documentation is submitted, including a completed registration form, certified copies of ID documents, and previous qualifications for repeater candidates.
