Dis-Chem: Dispensary Support Learnerships 2025

Dis-Chem invites South African unemployed youth to apply for Dispensary Support Learnership Programme 2025.

Location: Sandton, Gauteng, South Africa

Main Purpose:

  • The learnership aims to provide learners with practical training and education, preparing them to complete the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course, and ultimately become registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Learners will be employed in a Fixed Term position as Dispensary Support and will be considered for permanent employment once they qualify as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with dispensing tasks, including the sale of Schedule 1 medicines, preparation of non-sterile medicine, and assisting with unpacking and merchandising stock.
  • Ensure medication accuracy, including checking scripts, picking, packing, labeling, and verifying medication under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Manage stock levels by tracking expiration dates, organizing stock, and reporting low stock levels to the dispensary manager.
  • Customer service: Interacting with patients, answering calls, assisting with script tracking, and offering health-related information.
  • Supporting chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication authorization.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics (Higher Grade) and either Physical Science or Life Science.
  • At least 50% average across subjects.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Good communication skills: Proficiency in English and at least one other language.
  • Attention to detail and strong time management skills.
  • Customer service focus and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Computer literacy and strong numerical skills.
  • Teamwork, professionalism, and reliability are important traits for this role.
