Overview of the EPWP Fieldworkers Programme

The EPWP (Expanded Public Works Programme) is a government initiative aimed at creating temporary employment opportunities while building skills.

Participants will contribute to arts development and community programmes while gaining real workplace experience.


Available Placement Streams

Applicants must choose one stream when applying:

Performing and Visual Arts Stream

This stream is suitable for applicants with interest or experience in:

  • Theatre / Drama
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Poetry
  • Visual Arts
  • Sewing and Crafts

You will help develop artistic skills within communities and support youth programmes.


General Worker Stream

Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and maintaining facilities
  • Preparing venues for events
  • Assisting with programme logistics
  • Supporting daily operations

Early Childhood Developer Stream

This stream focuses on children aged 3–5 years.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting early learning programmes
  • Facilitating creative play and arts activities
  • Preparing learning materials
  • Assisting ECD practitioners

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

OR

  • Relevant experience in:
    • Arts and culture
    • Community programmes
    • Early childhood development

Experience examples include:

  • Community theatre participation
  • Church choir or dance group involvement
  • Sewing or craft work
  • Volunteering in youth programmes
  • Assisting at ECD centres

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Successful applicants will assist with:

Community Arts Development

  • Supporting local artists and youth groups
  • Facilitating workshops and rehearsals
  • Transferring creative skills

Facility Support

  • Preparing venues for events
  • Maintaining clean and safe environments
  • Supporting programme coordination

Early Childhood Activities (where applicable)

  • Assisting with learning through play
  • Supporting creative educational activities
  • Preparing classroom materials
