About Petroleum Agency SA:
Petroleum Agency SA, a subsidiary of CEF SOC Limited, is responsible for promoting and regulating the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas (petroleum) resources within the Republic, both on-shore and off-shore, on behalf of the Government. This is carried out in accordance with the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA).
Internship Details:
- The internship is funded by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and is intended for five (5) graduates over a two-year period.
- The internship program is planned to run from 01 February 2024 to 30 January 2026.
Internship Requirements:
To be eligible for this internship program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- The learner must be unemployed and a South African citizen.
- Graduates should have achieved the relevant qualification at a Higher Education and Training (HET) level. This includes graduates from TVET colleges, with only N6 Diploma graduates accepted into the program.
- Applicants must not have previously benefited from an internship program, whether MQA funded or company funded.
- No previous work experience is required.
Internship Duties and Benefits:
During the internship, selected candidates will:
- Contribute to the department’s tasks while developing the necessary skills and knowledge in their respective disciplines.
- Attend various relevant or discipline-specific training courses and conferences.
- Receive training in basic computer courses such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc. based on their current competency levels.
- Be given the opportunity to work independently to assess their progress in their own development.
Available Internships and Requirements:
- Petroleum Geosciences (x2 Interns):
- Learn the fundamentals of Geology and Geophysics applicable to the oil and gas industry for both local and international markets.
- Acquire the necessary tools and knowledge to qualify for employment as an Earth Scientist.
- Minimum Qualification: B.Sc. Honours in Geosciences (4 years).
- Geology: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (x1 Intern):
- Learn the fundamentals of petroleum E&P data management, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and spatial data management applications.
- Gain practical data management experience.
- Minimum Qualification: B.Sc. Honours Degree in Geology or Geophysics or Geographic Information Systems (4 years).
- Finance (x1 Intern):
- Gain exposure and experience through rotation and involvement in various finance processes.
- Experience financial statement preparation, budgeting, asset management, and taxation.
- Minimum Qualification: National Diploma in Accounting.
- Environmental Sciences/ Environmental Management (x1 Intern):
- Visit active operations both onshore and offshore, such as drilling, seismic surveys, and production sites.
- Be introduced to operational matters and liaise with various stakeholders involved in the oil and gas space.
- Minimum Qualification: B.Sc. Honours in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management/ Natural Sciences (4 years).
