Shoprite: Bursary 2021 / 2022

Shoprite: invites student to apply for Bursary Programme 2021 / 2022 academic year.

Each year, the Shoprite Group award bursaries to deserving students in various fields of study. For the 2021/ 2022 academic year, Shoprite are inviting students pursuing studies in these fields to apply for the bursary programme:

  • Pharmacy (BPharm)
  • Retail Business Management (Diploma)

Pharmacy bursary: 20 registered university students, in their 1st or 2nd year of study, will be selected to receive a bursary award. Bursary recipients will gain exposure of various aspects of the companies Pharmaceutical division, as well as learn about the main retail business and MediRite Pharmacies in Checkers, Checker Hyper, and Shoprite stores.

Retail Business Management bursary: 60 registered university students, in their 2nd or 3rd year of study, will be selected to receive a bursary award. Bursary recipients will be guaranteed a position in Africa’s biggest grocery product distributor after graduation, in an exciting retail management position.

The bursary aims to provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, prescribed books and an allowance for accommodation (the coverage value ranges from R30 000 to R60 000, depending on the course of study and institution).

There is a mandatory work-back requirement – for every year that you are covered by the bursary programme, you will work at Shoprite for the equal amount of time.

Please note that internal candidates will receive first consideration before external applications are reviewed (per Shoprite’s Employment Equity goals).

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted – should you not receive feedback within 30 days, please regard your application as unsuccessful.
 

Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Pharmacy students:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be no older than 27 years old
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying towards a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree qualification
  • You must be in your 1st or 2nd year of study
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65%
  • You must be passionate about Health Care in the Retail Industry

Retail Business Management students:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be no older than 27 years old
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying towards a Retail Business Management Diploma qualification
  • You must be in your 2nd or 3rd year of study
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60%
