Position Purpose

The Trainee Train Assistant will assist the Train Driver with the safe movement of trains from the required point to the destination.

The role supports safe train operations, locomotive handling, preparation duties, shunting activities, communication equipment checks and administration.

The position requires discipline, safety awareness, physical fitness and willingness to work shifts.

Position Outputs

The successful candidate will sign on duty at the designated workplace and be allocated duties for the shift.

The candidate will determine which locomotive must be prepared and obtain the required equipment.

The Trainee Train Assistant will place equipment on the locomotive, check prescribed equipment and clean the working area.
