UJ Arts & Culture Announces Second Round of CATHSSETA Internships

University of Johannesburg’s Arts & Culture is calling for a second round of applications for internships funded by Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA). At UJ Arts & Culture, we pride ourselves in providing opportunities to the youth where they can expand their skillsets in arts and culture related industries.A range of internships are available at several arts and culture organisations including:

  • Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA) at UJ – Interns will be based at the FADA Building on the Bunting Road Campus in Auckland Park.Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) – Interns will be based at the BASA offices in Melville.POPArt Studios – Interns will work at various venues in a festival environment.Market Theatre Laboratory – Interns will be based at The Market Square 138 Lilian Ngoyi Street, Newtown Johannesburg.UJ Arts & Culture – Interns will be based at the UJ Arts Centre on the Kingsway Campus in Auckland Park.

  • Gallery Assistant (3)Performing Arts Administration (5)
Internships will commence in December 2023 and run for a period of 12-months. Recent graduates with relevant qualifications are eligible to apply. Applications will close on 9 October 2023 at midday (12:00) and no late applications will be accepted. Applicants will be paid a monthly stipend of R5000.00 (subject to statutory deductions).To apply follow the link: https://form.jotform.com/232632690821556Internships Details:Performing Arts Administration The Intern will be mentored on administrative functions and systems related to the internal programme and project planning and implementation. The internship’s aim is to develop administrative skills, specifically computer literacy, planning and coordination skills, communication skills, creative thinking, innovation, and good work ethics.Minimum requirements: Diploma or Degree or above relevant qualification in Performing Arts.Gallery AssistantThe Intern will be mentored on gallery service including providing administrative assistance, creative services, and customer service for a visual art gallery. This includes speaking with visitors, answering phone calls, assisting with events and exhibitions as well as assisting gallery designers and the gallery collection. The aim of the internship is to develop computer literacy, planning and coordination skills, communication skills, creative thinking, innovation, and good work ethics.Minimum requirements: Diploma or Degree or above relevant qualification in Fine Art, Design and Studio Practice.For inquiries, send an email to ujarts@uj.ac.za.
