The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is inviting applications from qualified and committed individuals to apply for Fieldworker positions (x7) within the School of Nursing and Public Health, based at the Howard College Campus, Durban.
These positions are linked to the ARISE Network NUTRINT Project, which focuses on improving adolescent nutrition and reducing the risk of diet-related diseases. Successful candidates will work primarily at the USINGA HDSS site in Umlazi (wards 79 and 82).
Position Details

Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit and enrol adolescents (ages 10–24)
- Follow-up with participants from the first data collection wave
- Administer standardized surveys
- Conduct haemoglobin testing (finger prick), height and weight measurements
- Trace and track adolescents for data collection
- Refer participants to health services when necessary
- Support quality assurance targets with the project coordinator and data manager
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- 1 year of experience with research data tools (REDCap or similar)
- Experience with home/community-based research
- Willingness to work weekends and late afternoons
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
- Reside in ward 79 or 82 in Umlazi
- Valid driver’s licence
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
- Experience working with adolescents
- Home visit or follow-up research experience
- Experience in measuring weight, height, and haemoglobin
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluency in isiZulu and English
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
