The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is inviting applications for Postdoctoral Research Scholarships in the College of Law and Management Studies for the 2025 / 2026 academic year.

About the Scholarship Programme

UKZN is offering 9 postdoctoral research scholarships for qualified individuals interested in full-time research within the:

  • School of Law
  • School of Commerce
  • Graduate School of Business and Leadership

Scholars will work under the supervision of academic staff on an approved research programme. Renewal is subject to a satisfactory progress report and publication in a DHET-accredited journal.


Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD obtained within the last 5 years in a relevant field
  • Be under the age of 45 (Applicants aged 45–50 may be considered with motivation)
  • Have at least one first-authored DHET-accredited publication within the last 3 years
  • Preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged groups

  • Full CV including list of publications
  • Certified PhD certificate
  • Certified ID or passport
  • SAQA certificate (if PhD was obtained outside South Africa)
  • Synopsis of doctoral research (published and in-progress work)
  • One-page proposal (if proposing your own project)
