2223:Intern: High Impact Practices (contract appointment: 1 year)

The purpose of the internship programme is to offer graduates (diploma/degree) with no relevant work experience the opportunity to obtain practical workplace exposure and experience.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Teaching and Learning Coordinator (TLC) with carrying out research initiatives.
  • Assist with portfolio assessments on Blackboard.
  • Venue administration: Assist with adhoc problem solving where venues are concerned.
  • Tutor Training: Assist with logistics of all tutor training sessions.
  • Databases and financial administration: Compile database with full details of tutors.
  • Assist TLC to complete Ad-hoc claim forms for tutor payments.
  • Capture attendance data on Oracle for reporting and research purposes.
  • Assist TLC with providing thorough constructive feedback to tutors during observations.
  • Liaise with tutors and develop evaluation schedule for each semester.
  • Distribute, collect and scan evaluation forms for reporting purposes.
  • Assist tutors in specific modules with planning and implementing of session plans.

Inherent requirements:

  • A relevant B-degree.

Required competencies:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s richly diverse working environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including but not limited to MS Word and MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Good organisational skills and have the ability to manage events/processes effectively and independently.
  • Ability work well under pressure.
  • Above average written and oral communication proficiency in the official administrative language of the institution.
  • Basic qualitative and quantitative research skills.

The following criteria apply to the selection of candidates:

  • Not currently participating in an existing learnership/internship programme.
  • Willing to sign a learnership/internship agreement with the UFS.
  • Candidate must be available for a period of one (1) year.
  • Postgraduate qualification will serve as a recommendation.

Assumption of duties:
As soon as possible.

  • Assist in the development of e-Assessment activities, including the development of assessment question banks.
  • Scheduling e-Assessments (Blackboard & QuestionMark).
  • Assist in the development of training material for objective assessment.
  • Provide support in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of student and/or academic staff training.
  • Provide assistance in the collection and analysis of data and report writing.
