Western Cape Government Apprenticeships 2025

The Western Cape Government (WCG) invites South African unemployed youth aged 18 to 30 to apply for the 3-year and 6-month Apprenticeship Programme through the Department of Infrastructure.

About the Programme:

This funded Apprenticeship Programme offers practical and institutional training in the construction sector and includes a monthly stipend of R5 500.00.


Apprenticeship Trades Available:

  • Electrical Apprenticeship – Garden Route District (Ref: APPELECGR)
  • Bricklaying Apprenticeship – Overberg District (Ref: APPBRICKOVB)
  • Electrical Apprenticeship – Central Karoo District (Ref: APPELECCK)

What the Programme Entails:

  • Institutional training and on-site practical work
  • Health and safety practices
  • Site maintenance
  • Administrative tasks
  • Travel and work across various construction sites in the Western Cape

Minimum Requirements:

  • South African citizen
  • Aged between 18 and 30
  • Must be unemployed
  • Resident of the applicable district (Garden Route, Overberg, or Central Karoo)
  • Good health (must pass medical and substance examination)
  • Relevant Occupational Certificate or TVET equivalent:
    • Electrical: NQF Level 1 with Pure Mathematics & Science
    • Bricklaying: NQF Level 3 with Mathematical Literacy
  • Good communication skills in at least two of the Western Cape’s official languages

Competencies Required:

  • Practical technical skills
  • Numeracy and literacy
  • Understanding of the trade (Electrical or Bricklaying)
  • Knowledge of the built environment
