Starke Ayres: Pathology / Molecular Biology Graduate Internships 2020

Starke Ayres invites unemployed graduates to apply for Pathology / Molecular Biology Graduate / Internship Programme for 2020. The internship will run for the period of 12 months.

Internship Location: Kempton Park, Gauteng

Responsibilities include:
โ€ขPrepare samples for a variety of laboratory applications and protocols.
โ€ขPrepare media and plating of seeds for seed health tests.
โ€ขSplit, label and distribute logged seed samples according to ISTA protocols.
โ€ขPrepare research and QC samples for DNA extraction
โ€ขPerform DNA extractions and PCR reactions in accordance with lab protocols
โ€ขEnsure that tests are carried out correctly to achieve the required accuracy
โ€ขCorrect labelling and storage of samples.
โ€ขGerminate samples according to protocols.
โ€ขPathogen culture maintenance and preservation.
โ€ขEnsure sufficient stock of agar plates of important media are availble for all routine work.
โ€ขAssist with general housekeeping, ensure that laboratories are neat and clean and running optimally.

Minimum requirements:
โ€ขBSc Agric / BSc / National Diploma in Plant Pathology / Molecular Biology or Biotechnology (Completed or in progress)
โ€ขBasic understanding of Pathology test procedures / genetic principles and inheritance of traits.
โ€ขComputer skills (MS word, Excel, Internet, E-Mail, Outlook).
โ€ขWell developed understanding of laboratory processes and equipment.
โ€ข2 yearsโ€™ experience as a Laboratory an added advantage.
