The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) invites suitably qualified South African unemployed graduates to apply for an Information Technology Intern position as part of its two-year Internship Programme.

This opportunity is aimed at young graduates who have never participated in an internship programme and are seeking meaningful workplace exposure within a public-sector skills development authority operating under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).


About the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA)

The MQA is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) established in terms of the Skills Development Act (SDA), 97 of 1998. Its mandate is to drive skills development across the Mining and Minerals Sector (MMS), covering sub-sectors such as coal, gold, platinum group metals, diamonds, cement, aggregates, sand, jewellery manufacturing, and mining-related services.


Internship Programme Overview

  • Post Title: Information Technology Intern
  • Programme Duration: 24 months (Two-Year Programme)
  • Monthly Stipend: R9 306.18
  • Reference: MQA/COM/00/000
  • Target Group: Unemployed South African graduates
  • Citizenship: South African citizens only

The successful intern will report to the Senior Manager: Information Technology and gain hands-on exposure across core IT operations and systems.


Job Profile and Key Responsibilities

The intern will actively participate in and gain exposure to the following areas:

  • Assisting with maintenance of IT infrastructure in a Microsoft Windows environment, including capacity, security, and network administration
  • Supporting cloud services and Microsoft SQL database administration for organisational systems
  • Providing first-line end-user support through the ICT Service Desk, including:
    • Setup of laptops and workstations
    • Windows applications and email configuration
    • Anti-virus installation
    • Password resets and system troubleshooting
  • Network and printer troubleshooting
  • Supporting IT security administration, including backup and recovery, firewall, antivirus, and vulnerability solutions
  • Providing remote IT support to regional offices
  • Software installation and basic user training
  • General IT and office administrative support
  • Assisting with business analysis and project coordination for the IMIS/ERP Project

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • National Diploma or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 in the Information Technology field

Added Advantage

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification in Information Technology or a related field will be an advantage
