Valterra Platinum has officially opened applications for its Community Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

This bursary is aimed at supporting young people from Valterra Platinum host communities who face socio-economic challenges and would otherwise struggle to access funding for higher education.

About the Valterra Platinum Bursary Programme 2026
Valterra Platinum is inviting applications for its Community Bursary Programme, which supports undergraduate studies in ANY field at NQF Level 6 or 7.
Host Communities Covered
Applicants must reside in host communities linked to the following Valterra Platinum operations:
- Amandelbult Mine (Limpopo)
- Mogalakwena Mine (Limpopo)
- Mototolo Mine (Limpopo)
- Polokwane Smelter (Limpopo)
- Rustenburg Processing & Smelting Operations:
- Mortimer Smelter
- Converter Plant (CP)
- Base Metal Refinery (BMR)
- Precious Metal Refinery (PMR)
- Waterval Smelter (North West)
- Twickenham Project (Limpopo)
The programme prioritises learners from vulnerable households who are less likely to secure alternative funding.
Expenses Covered and Duration
The bursary covers:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Allowance
The bursary is awarded for the full duration of the qualification, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Renewal is reviewed annually.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Reside in a Valterra Platinum host community listed above
- Have completed most of their schooling in a host community
- Have completed Matric in 2024 or 2025
- Be between 18 and 25 years old
- Be accepted or enrolled for a first undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 6 or 7) in ANY field
- Programme must be fully SAQA-accredited
- Be enrolled in a full-time programme completed within 3 years (by December 2028)
- Study at a registered public or private higher education institution
- Not be a child of a Valterra Platinum employee
Preference Will Be Given To
- Orphans and vulnerable children
- Learners from unemployed households
- Child-headed households
Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 30 days after the closing date
- If no feedback is received within this period, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful

Required Supporting Documents
Applicants must upload clear copies of the following:
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Certified copy of Matric certificate
- Latest academic record (if currently studying)
- Acceptance or conditional acceptance letter from a higher education institution
- Proof of tertiary registration, if available
- Proof of residence (not older than 3 months, stamped by municipality or traditional authority)
- Proof of vulnerability, such as:
- SASSA grant confirmation, or
- Affidavit confirming orphaned, unemployed, or child-headed household status (if applicable)
