Glencore Lion Smelter In-Service Training P1 & P2 Opportunities 2026

Glencore Lion Smelter invites South African students to apply for the In-Service Training (P1 & P2) Programme 2026.

Internship Application Closing Date: 13 March 2026

Internship Location: Lion Smelter, Steelpoort, Limpopo, South Africa

The In-Service Training Programme is designed for students who have completed their S4 studies and require Practical Training (P1 and P2) to complete their qualification. Successful candidates will gain hands-on experience in a professional mining and smelting environment while working under the supervision of experienced mentors.

Participants will be placed on a 24-month fixed-term training contract, where they will receive structured workplace training and industry exposure.


Available In-Service Training Opportunities

Glencore Lion Smelter is offering three (3) training opportunities in the following fields:

Production – Metallurgical Engineering (X1 Post)

Qualification Requirements:

  • Completed S4 in Metallurgical Engineering
  • Must provide a confirmation letter from the university for In-Service Training

Laboratory – Analytical Chemistry (X2 Posts)

Qualification Requirements:

  • Completed S4 in Analytical Chemistry
  • Must provide a confirmation letter from the university for In-Service Training

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Completed S4 qualification in the relevant field
  • Must provide official confirmation from the university requiring In-Service Training
  • Computer literacy, including MS Office proficiency
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be initiative-driven and results oriented

Training Duration

  • Programme Duration: 24 Months
  • Type: Fixed-Term Contract
  • Location: Lion Smelter, Steelpoort, Limpopo

Training Responsibilities

During the programme, trainees will:

  • Complete Practical Training (P1 and P2) with guidance from experienced mentors
  • Gain practical workplace exposure within the smelter operations
  • Submit quarterly progress reports as required
  • Comply with workplace health and safety standards
  • Perform general administrative duties and other tasks when required
  • Work rotational shifts where necessary
