South African Reserve Bank (SARB) invites South African unemployed postgraduate students to apply for the ERD Winter School 2026.

About the SARB Winter School 2026

The SARB Winter School is a week-long in-person programme designed for postgraduate students. It gives students exposure to both local and international research insights while introducing them to the culture and work of the South African Reserve Bank.

Participants will also take part in action-based learning projects related to central banking. The programme may lead to consideration for the SARB Graduate Development Programme.

The Winter School will take place from 29 June to 4 July 2026 at the SARB Head Office in Pretoria.

Accommodation and transport will be provided to successful candidates.

Fields of Study

The South African Reserve Bank will consider postgraduate students or those studying towards a postgraduate qualification in at least one of the following areas:

  • Economics
  • Statistics
  • Mathematics
  • Finance
  • Actuarial Science

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • You must have completed or be about to complete a postgraduate degree
  • You must have achieved or expect to achieve an average of over 70% in your final year
  • You must have a strong interest in financial services and/or policymaking
  • You must have a proven academic record
  • You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • You must be a curious and eager learner
  • You must be unemployed
