This position is offered on a 24 months fixed-term contract and comes with a stipend of R13 000 to R16 000 per month.

Background

The Moses Kotane Research Institute is mandated to stimulate a sustainable provincial economy through research, development and innovation, and to strategically lead in innovation and maritime co-ordination and implementation activities to respond to the needs of the provincial economy.

To fulfil this mandate, the institution is looking to appoint an experiential learner in Legal and Corporate Affairs to strengthen organisational capacity by providing legal and administrative support to the Manager: Legal and Corporate Affairs, ensuring efficient processes and timely delivery of compliance-related tasks.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidate must have:

  • LLB (NQF 8)
  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner of the High Court of South Africa
  • Completed Practical Legal Training or Pupillage
  • 2026 Letter of Good Standing issued by the Legal Practice Council
  • A valid driverโ€™s licence

The following will be added advantages:

  • LLM (NQF 9)
  • 2 yearsโ€™ experience in Commercial, Corporate and Labour Law, including CCMA
  • Contract drafting and management experience
  • Intellectual Property Law qualification

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate must have:

  • Analytical and research skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Drafting of legal contracts and legal opinions
  • Drafting and review of policies

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist with:

  • Provision of legal administration support and coordination of contracts
  • HR, Legal, and Compliance Administration
  • Contract Management, including drafting, vetting, review, coordination and administration of contracts
  • Policy drafting and review
  • Legal Secretariat Services
  • Other relevant Corporate Services Unit duties

Disqualifiers

Any candidate who has pending or criminal conviction cases, pending or disciplinary records, and non-South African citizens will be immediately disqualified from the selection process.
