Education Empowerment and Development Fund (EEDF) Bursaries 2024

Education Empowerment and Development Fund (EEDF) is welcoming applications from South African students for the Bursary Programme for the academic year 2024.

The EEDF Bursary program offers support to students pursuing various fields of study and aims to help them achieve their academic and career goals. Here’s an overview of the program, its eligibility requirements, and the application process:

Program Details:

  • The bursary covers various fields of study, including Accounting, Engineering, Computer Science, Medicine, and more.
  • The value and coverage of the bursary depend on the student’s household income.
  • Students from the “missing middle” (household income between R350,000 and R600,000) receive greater support, while NSFAS-eligible students (household income below R350,000) receive partial support.
  • The “missing middle” students receive full coverage for registration costs, tuition fees, accommodation, study materials, and a laptop allowance for first-year students.
  • Bursary recipients also receive tutoring, mentorship, meal assistance, and mental health support.
  • Students eligible for NSFAS funding receive full coverage for registration fees and comprehensive non-financial support, including mentorship and mental health support.

Obligation:

  • Recipients are expected to engage in various voluntary work, such as mentorship, to give back to the community upon successful completion of their studies.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the EEDF Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizenship: South African citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Age: Between 18 and 25 years old.
  3. Academic Year: Entering the first year or final year of studies in 2024.
  4. Income: Household income of less than R600,000 per annum.
  5. Institution: Accepted, enrolled, or provisionally accepted at one of the following tertiary institutions: North West University, University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, or University of the Witwatersrand.

Application Process: To apply for the EEDF Bursary, follow these steps:

  1. Submit your application online using the EEDF Bursary Application for 2024.
  2. When asked how you heard about the EEDF Bursary, enter “StudentRoom.co.za”
  3. Ensure that you submit clear copies of the required supporting documentation. The submission of these documents is compulsory, and missing items may lead to disqualification. Documents to include:
    • Certified copy of your ID document.
    • Certified copy of your matric certificate.
    • Full academic record if currently studying.
    • Proof of registration/acceptance into one of the specified tertiary institutions.
    • Proof of household income (recent payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of pension or SASSA grant if applicable).
    • Proof of residence (utility bill or rental agreement).
    • Proof of disability (if applicable).
    • A motivational letter explaining why you should receive this award.
    • Recommendation letters from teachers, mentors, or individuals who can vouch for your academic achievements, potential, and character (preferable).
