South African Weather Service (SAWS): Forecasting Internships 2024

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) invites unemployed graduates to apply for Forecasting Internship Programme 2023 / 2024

Internship Application Closing Date: 03 November 2023

Internship Location: Pretoria, OR Tambo International Airport, Bloemfontein, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town.

Program Details:

  • Duration: 1-year training internship in weather forecasting.
  • Location: South African Weather Service head office in Pretoria.
  • Course Start Date: January 29, 2024.
  • Qualification: The program includes the required dynamical courses as prescribed by the World Meteorological Organization.
  • Possible Appointment Locations: Successful candidates may be appointed to various offices, including Pretoria, OR Tambo International Airport, Bloemfontein, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town.

Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the SA Weather Services Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizenship: Applicants must be South African citizens.
  2. Educational Background: Completed an Honours degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences.
  3. Mathematics and Physical Sciences: Passed Mathematics at the second-year university level and Physical Sciences at the first-year university level.
  4. Computer Literacy: Have basic computer literacy skills.
  5. Interpersonal Skills: Possess good interpersonal relations.

Application Process: To apply for the SA Weather Services Bursary, follow these steps:

  1. Download and complete the SA Weather Service Bursary Application Form for the year 2024, which can be found in a PDF format on the official website.
  2. In the field asking how you heard about the SA Weather Service bursary, enter “StudentRoom.co.za”
  3. Use the following reference number in your application: REF.WS12/10/2023.
  4. Prepare the following documents for submission, all of which should be clear, certified copies:
    • ID document
    • Matric certificate
    • Most recent academic transcript or record (on institution’s letterhead or logo)
    • Completed qualification certificates
    • Any other merit certificates or achievements
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Covering letter/motivational letter (max 1 page)
  5. Submit your application and the required documents via email to Jannie.Stander@weathersa.co.za. Make sure to insert “SA Weather Bursary 2024” in the email subject line.

  • The bursary will not cover outstanding student debt or loans.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within one month of the closing date. If you don’t receive any feedback by that date, consider your application as unsuccessful.
