HCI Foundation bursaries are primarily for students who will be in their 1st year of study in 2016 and our current bursary recipients. Applications for other years of study will only be considered if we have spaces available.
1. What we fund?
All Universities & Universities of Technology. WE DO NOT FUND FET, PRIVATE COLLEGES OR DISTANCE LEARNING.
2. Who we are?
The HCI Foundation Bursary Programme provides financial assistance to academically deserving and financially needy students, pursuing an undergraduate degree up to Honours level in any field of study, at a public university or university of technology in South Africa.
3. How much do we give?
HCI Foundation gives a partial bursary to deserving students studying at public institutions in South Africa to cover up 75% of the student’s tuition fees to a maximum of R 26 000.
4. How many bursaries do we give per year?
We receive around 8000 applications every year. Only 1000 will be successful.
5. What are the conditions of our bursary?
We do not require bursary recipients to repay their bursaries (except in special circumstances), but we do expect them to give back by engaging with community projects and reporting back to the HCI Foundation, e.g.: tutoring programmes, mentoring programmes, volunteering at old age homes, crèches, etc.
Please note that the giving of false / inaccurate information will result in immediate withdrawal of the bursary.
6. Who qualifies?
South African citizens, refugees and asylum seekers who fulfil the following criteria:
Current HCI Foundation bursary recipients.
Will be in their 1st year of study in 2016.
Studying at a public University or University of Technology in South Africa.
A minimum of 55% average for Matric or end of year results (Life Orientation is not considered).
With a gross family income of less than R20 000 per month.
Age 35 years or under on 30 September 2015 .
NB: We do not fund part-time, distance learning or students studying at FET colleges.

From 1 August 2015 to 30 September 2015 .

In previous years, hard copy application forms were available. For the 2016 application process, all applications should be made online only. No hardcopy application forms will be available. Please note that this application form cannot be downloaded; therefore, you are advised to reserve sufficient time to complete the application online. However, you can start, stop, save and continue your application throughout the application process.
9. What does the bursary cover?
The HCI Foundation bursary is a partial bursary that covers a percentage of tuition fees. We do not give allowances for living expenses, books, residence, meals or transport.
Please note that we do not pay for repeat years of study or repeat modules.
10. How and when do we pay?
Payments happen around June of each year. We pay directly into the student’s fee account at institutions of study.
We do not pay students directly.
11. Can the student apply if he/she has got a NFSAS loan, other loans or another bursary?
You may still be eligible for an HCI Foundation bursary even if you are recipient of a loan or a partial bursary from elsewhere.
However, we will withdraw our bursary if a student receives a full cost bursary or a significantly large partial bursary
from another donor. The withdrawn bursary will be allocated to another deserving student.
Students with large partial bursaries and those with full-cost bursaries are required to inform the HCI Foundation of their status or to decline our bursary by sending an email to bp@hcifoundation.co.za
12. Does the Foundation cover postgraduate studies?
The Foundation only supports B. Tech and Honours studies of our continuing bursary recipients.
13. Does the Foundation assist with internships or employment?
With the large number of bursaries that the Foundation gives annually, we are unable to assist with internships and employment. We encourage students to stay in touch with us and inform us of their progress. In this way, if any opportunity arises, we can refer the student via the appropriate channels.
14. What are the most important pieces of information to have before applying?
You must have a working email address
You must have a working cell phone number
You must have a student number if you are applying for your second year of study or higher
You must have the exact amount of your parents’ or guardians’ monthly income
