About the NMISA Risk Management Internship
The National Metrology Institute of South Africa is offering a 24-month Risk Management Internship within its Strategy, Business Development and Governance Division.
The internship is based within the Governance, Risk and Compliance Section and provides practical training in the Risk Management unit.
The successful intern will work closely with the Risk Management Officer and gain practical experience in risk management, governance, risk identification and analysis, risk registers, fraud prevention, ethics management and business continuity planning.
Qualification Requirements
Applicants must have a:
- Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Risk Management;
- Auditing;
- Management; or
- A related field.
Applicants should also have:
- Knowledge and understanding of governance and risk principles.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Good communication skills.
- Good report-writing skills.
Experience Requirements
No previous internship or relevant work experience is required.
NMISA specifically states that applicants who already have relevant work experience will not be considered for this internship.
This opportunity is therefore intended for graduates seeking practical workplace experience in Risk Management.
Responsibilities
The successful intern will assist with:
- Assessing and managing risks relating to NMISA and its operating environment, including cultural, social, political, legal, regulatory, financial, technological, economic and competitive risks.
- Conducting risk assessments of the Strategic Plan for the period under review.
- Considering the impact of systemic changes, including international trends in metrology and national and provincial policy and legislative developments.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of risk mitigation plans implemented by managers and project leaders of technical and scientific projects on a quarterly basis.
- Maintaining NMISA Risk Registers.
- Supporting the overall risk management process within NMISA.
- Monitoring, reviewing and updating fraud-prevention and ethics-management policies and processes.
- Supporting the management and coordination of organisational Business Continuity Management Plans.
- Helping ensure employees understand ethics-related policies and procedures.
- Supporting processes relating to declarations of private interests, receipt of gifts and whistleblowing.
