Maize Trust Bursaries 2026

The Maize Trust invites South African postgraduate students to apply for the Maize Trust Bursary 2026 for Masters and Doctoral studies in fields relevant to the maize industry.

About the Maize Trust

The Maize Trust was established in August 1998 after the closure of the Maize Board to promote the South African maize industry. Its mission is to facilitate the continuous improvement of the maize industry to ensure it remains regionally dominant and internationally competitive.

The Trust funds:

  • Market and production-related research,
  • Dissemination of market information,
  • Transformation initiatives, including bursaries and farmer development projects.

Bursary Scope and Value

  • Masters by Dissertation: R99,750 per annum (for 2 years)
  • Doctoral Research: R131,250 per annum (for 3 years)

Funding is subject to approved progress reports by both the student and their supervisor.


Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be admitted for full-time Masters (by dissertation) or Doctoral studies at a recognised university.
  • Be studying in a field relevant to the South African maize industry.
  • Have their dissertation/thesis proposal approved by the Maize Trust.
  • Not receive funding from other sources without prior approval from the Trust.
  • Commit to working in the maize industry in South Africa for the same period as the bursary duration.
