About the Valterra Platinum Engineering Learnership Programme

Valterra Platinum is offering an Engineering Learnership Programme (18.2 โ€“ Unemployed) for candidates interested in developing technical skills and gaining practical workplace experience within the mining industry.

The programme combines structured off-the-job learning with workplace training. Successful completion of the learnership will lead to a nationally recognised Artisan qualification.

Available Learnership Opportunities

The following engineering trades are available:

  • Learnership Fitter
  • Learnership Boilermaker
  • Learnership Rigger
  • Learnership Electrician
  • Learnership Instrument Mechanician
  • Learnership Millwright

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have Matric/Technical Matric with:

  • Mathematics โ€“ minimum 40% (Mathematical Literacy is not accepted)
  • Physical Science โ€“ minimum 40%
  • English โ€“ minimum 40%

Alternatively, applicants may have N2 or higher with the subjects required for the relevant engineering discipline.

Candidates with an appropriate NCV Level 4 qualification may also apply, provided all relevant subjects were passed with a minimum of 40%.

N2 Trade-Specific Requirements

Boilermaker: Plating & Structural Steelwork or Welders Theory, Plating Structural & Steelwork Drawings, Mathematics and Engineering Science.

Welder: Plating & Structural Steelwork/Welders Theory, Plating Structural & Steelwork Drawings, Mathematics and Engineering Science.

Millwright: Electrical Trade Theory, Electrotechnology or Electrotechnics; Fitting Trade Theory or Mechanotechnology; Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings; Mathematics and Engineering Science.

Electrician: Electrical Trade Theory, Electrotechnology or Electrotechnics; Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings; Mathematics and Engineering Science.

Mechanical Fitter: Fitting Trade Theory, Mechanotechnology or Mechanotechnics; Engineering Drawings/Draughting; Mathematics and Engineering Science.

Instrument Mechanician: Instrument Trade Theory or Industrial Instrument, Industrial Electronics, Mathematics and Engineering Science.

Rigger: Rigging Trade Theory, Engineering Drawings/Draughting, Mathematics and Engineering Science.

What the Learnership Offers

Successful applicants will participate in structured training consisting of both workplace and off-the-job learning.

The programme provides an opportunity to develop practical engineering skills, gain experience in the mining industry and work towards a nationally recognised Artisan qualification.
