Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Application Dates 2027 and Admission Requirements

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) invites prospective students to apply for admission to various undergraduate diploma and degree programmes for the 2027 academic year.

Prospective students are encouraged to submit their applications early to avoid disappointment.

Application Opening Date: Early 2026
Application Closing Date (Academic Admission): 30 September 2026
Residence Application Closing Date: 31 October 2026

Initial selection for admission is usually based on Grade 11 results or the latest Grade 12 results.


VUT Faculties and Popular Courses

VUT offers a wide range of qualifications across several faculties, including:

Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences

Some programmes offered include:

  • Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (3 years)
  • Diploma in Agricultural Management (3 years)
  • Diploma in Biotechnology (3 years)
  • Diploma in Non-Destructive Testing
  • Diploma in Environmental Science
  • Bachelor of Health Sciences: Medical Laboratory Science (4 years)

Example minimum requirements may include:

  • English Level 4
  • Mathematics Level 4 or Technical Mathematics Level 4
  • Physical Sciences Level 4
  • Minimum APS between 21 – 23 (excluding Life Orientation) depending on programme.

Department of Computer Sciences

Diploma in Information Technology (3 Years)

Minimum requirements include:

  • English Level 4
  • Mathematics / Technical Mathematics Level 4
  • OR Mathematical Literacy Level 6
  • APS:
    • 26 APS (Maths/Technical Maths)
    • 28 APS (Maths Literacy)

An Extended IT Programme is also available with slightly lower APS requirements.

Most programmes require:

  • English Level 4
  • Mathematics Level 3 OR Mathematical Literacy Level 4
  • APS between 20 – 23 (excluding Life Orientation)

Some programmes may require portfolio submissions or interviews.

Engineering diploma programmes include:

Minimum requirements:

  • Mathematics Level 4
  • Physical Science Level 4
  • English Level 4
  • Minimum APS: 24

Extended programmes require APS 22 with Level 3 subjects.


Documents Required for VUT Application

Applicants must upload the following documents when applying:

  • Certified copy of South African ID or Passport
  • Certified copy of Grade 11 results or latest Grade 12 results
  • Proof of payment for the application fee
  • Proof of address (optional)

Applications without proof of payment will not be processed.

Applicants can track their admission status online.

  2. Click “Admissions – New Students”
  3. Click “Check Status”
  4. Enter your Student Number or ID Number
  5. Click Submit
